Our covenant with Hyde Park Methodist Church

Following a lengthy period of working together, discussions and consultation, the two churches agreed the following Declaration of Intent and signed it on 10 January 1999:

Declaration of Intent
for
the Parish of St Margaret and All Hallows
and
Hyde Park Methodist Mission Church

In obedience to what we believe that God is asking us, we the ministers and people of the Parish of St Margaret and All Hallows and Hyde Park Methodist Mission Church, who have increasingly shared our Christian life in a variety of ways over recent years, now feel that we should make a more formal commitment to be together the Church of God in Hyde Park. We confess our faith in one God, Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier: guiding us all into all truth. We repent of all that is sinful in our past histories and present attitudes. We rejoice in the riches of the traditions we have inherited and seek to share them more fully with one another to the glory of God. We seek a deepening of our communion with Christ and with one another. We therefore make this commitment to God and to each other. We commit ourselves:

  1. to work together in every way we can to share a common Christian witness in the community of which we are a part;
  2. through joint worship, prayer and study to get to know each other, to learn from each other, and to value both our differences and those things we have in common;
  3. to work together in social, pastoral and evangelistic outreach into our community;
  4. to publicise and promote our church life and worship by joint means wherever possible;
  5. to set specific targets under each of the above headings and review progress annually;
  6. to express our achievements and aspirations in a united act of worship and rededication marking each anniversary of the signing of this covenant.

Signed 10 January 1999
