an evening with Peterson Toscano
a theatrical performance activist thoughtfully and humorously exploring queer issues
Saturday 17 May 2008
7.30—10.30 pm
at All Hallows Church
Spend an evening with Peterson Toscano and his zany, heartwarming
characters. A comic actor, playwright and theatrical performance
activist, Peterson presents one-person shows throughout the US, UK and
Europe that are both hilarious and deeply insightful. For one night
only in Leeds you will see the "best of Peterson Toscano" as he presents excerpts from four of his plays including "The Re-Education of George W. Bush" and "Doin' Time in the Homo No Mo Halfway House." Peterson will also share extracts from his newest play, "Transfigurations," which looks at the stories and lives of transgender Bible characters.
Peterson has performed at the Greenbelt Festival a number of times in the
last couple of years. A lot of his
material is based around the fact that he is a gay Quaker and a survivor of many,
many years in Christian "ex-gay" groups trying for a
"cure" for his sexuality. Part of his show will be looking at these
experiences, which he does with humour, sensitivity and a surprising
lack of bitterness. This really does promise to be a unique and very
special event.
