Inter-faith visit to Iraq

Around the time of the Iraq War in 2003, All Hallows had developed a good relationship with Hussein Mehdi and the CROHDI group, and the Ahlul Bayt Islamic Centre in Hanover Square, Leeds.

Following on from this, Hussein invited us to join him on his return to Iraq to visit his family, to investigate the disappearance and execution of his relatives under the old regime, to participate in the Shia remembrance of Ashura, and to investigate projects in Iraq that the church and the Islamic Centre might be able jointly to raise funds for.

Ray, our priest, was asked to go by the PCC, and the church raised money to pay for his flight. On Friday 13 February 2004 the Yorkshire Evening Post published an excellent article about the planned visit to Iraq.

Whilst in Iraq, Ray sent back a few e-mails describing his experiences, and also on his return published an article based on an address he gave to a conference on Imam Hussein and his relevance today at Karbala University. He has since spoken about his experiences at several meetings.
