HealingWhat is healing?Healing is dynamic; it involves a change from one state of being to another. There is always some movement about it. Moreover, I believe it is something that happens all the time on our journey towards wholeness. There is a sense in which birth, growth, maturity, aging and death are all part of that journey. Thinking of healing in this way helps a great deal because it enables us to see the whole of life as a unity: we can understand and accept that healing is taking place all the time, even during illness and terrible suffering. Una Kroll from In touch with healing Healing at the EucharistOn the first Sunday of the month, the laying on of hands and anointing for healing is offered at our morning Eucharist. In the laying on of hands we are communicating, through the loving touch of others, the reality of Gods healing touch transforming our lives. In anointing with oil we are acknowledging the lavishness of Gods love for us, through Christ, that is poured upon us daily. These rituals are ways of opening ourselves more fully to the reality of Gods grace that is in our lives now. Healing space at the evening serviceWe are, all of us, walking wounded. These words of M Scott Peck are the starting-point for our healing service at All Hallows the recognition that all of us are in need of healing. We are also, all of us, called to heal, to practise healing action in our world. This belief that we are called to seek healing and to become healers informs the way we organise our service. We meet in a circle with different people taking the lead for different parts of the service. We also encourage everyone to join in the laying on of hands and anointing for healing, both giving and receiving.
